I don't have a lot at the moment about what sensors Lazlo will have, but below is a list of what I currently have planned…

  • 2 x SRF04 Ultrasonic range finders (may end replacing with long distance IR)
  • 6-10 x Sharp GP2D12 IR distance sensors
  • 1 x video camera
  • 1 x microphone
  • 1 x 2 axis accelerometer
  • 1 x Compass (like a Devantech or HM55B)
  • 4 x Light sensors
  • Various bumper switches
  • Ambient temperature sensor
  • Some internal monitoring like battery voltage, motor current draw, WiFi signal strength, motherboard temperature and fan speed, etc.

Below are photos of my progress so far. At the time of this writing, just the two shoulder mounted ultrasonic range finders and the pan and tilt unit that will eventually have a camera, spot light, and IR rangefinder attached. The ultrasonic range finders can both perform 180 degree outward sweeps, effectively allowing for 360 degree sweeps. Eventually, they will have IR modules as well for short range reading, for things like centering down hallways (by pointing both outward).
